About The Position

Belmont University is seeking applications for a non-tenure track Instructor/Professor of Practice of Musical Theatre, beginning August 1, 2027. The School of Music in the College of Music and Performing Arts is looking for engaging teacher-artists with expertise in current practice in pedagogical principles, performance practice, and current best practice in the field. Requirements

• A masters degree in voice, musical theatre, or related field is required.
• Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
• Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
• Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
• Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
• Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
• Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
• Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
• Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University.
• Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
• Must complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
• Must complete E-Verify.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate (as Music Director) in preparing a cohesive, artistic and stylistic vision for mainstage musical productions.
• Accompany all rehearsals, teach harmonies, vocal arrangements, and ensemble numbers.
• Assist the creative team during auditions and callbacks to assess the vocal capabilities and ranges of student performers.
• Conduct and/or play piano for the pit orchestra.
• Oversee key milestones like sitzprobe.
• Liaise with sound designer and sound engineer to create mic plots and notate scripts.
• Teach an applied voice studio for musical theatre students.
• Other courses and responsibilities may be included based on candidate’s background and area of expertise.
• Maintain a 24-hour teaching workload, including applied lessons and other coursework.
• Academic advising.
• Maintaining scholarly/creative endeavors.
• Department, college, and university service.
• Work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
