Instructor Pool - 2026/2027: Chemistry
About The Position
The Department of Chemistry at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track, full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term-by-term basis for the 2026-2027 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Department Chair. Applications submitted to this recruitment pool are reviewed on an as needed basis, and qualified candidates will be contacted when positions become available. Instructors may be needed to teach courses, either on-campus or Ecampus, in various areas of chemistry including analytical, biological, bio-organic, general, environmental, materials, nuclear, Organic, and physical chemistry. The OSU Department of Chemistry is a vital part of the University's educational, research, and outreach missions, delivering a significant number of student credit hours annually and supporting a vibrant graduate program. The Department engages in cutting-edge research across all areas of chemistry relevant to biology, materials, and the environment. This dynamic setting supports instructional faculty in their efforts to fulfill the Department’s educational mission, impacting a large number of students each year. The College of Science plays a core instructional role at OSU, upholding the principles of learning, discovery, and engagement inherent in a land-grant university. Requirements
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline appropriate to the field of teaching/instructional tasks.
- Teaching experience at the college and/or university level.
- An evident commitment to educational equity.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
- Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Nice To Haves
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline to the field of teaching/instructional tasks.
Responsibilities
- Administer and teach up to 4 on campus or ecampus undergraduate courses.
- Hold regular Office hours to assist students with coursework and answer questions regarding the curriculum.
- Provide supervision/lead work for up to 5 Graduate or Undergraduate student employees.
- Follow college practices on early warnings, student feedbacks, and grading policies.
