About The Position

The School of Construction and Design at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in Architectural Engineering Technology at the Instructor level, with a target start date of August 2027. This is an on-site position based on the Hattiesburg campus, with primary responsibilities involving face-to-face instruction and in-person engagement with students, faculty, and the School community.

Requirements

  • A professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree or a master’s degree in architecture or a closely related field.
  • At least one degree in architecture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Commitment to collegiality and evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of design, modeling, and rendering software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to integrate current and emerging technologies into teaching and student learning.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Professional registration or licensure.
  • Significant professional or industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of emerging digital technologies and AI-assisted tools applicable to architectural design, visualization, documentation, and/or education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching, student success, continuous improvement, and service to the program.
  • Submission of a studio portfolio is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full load of undergraduate courses each semester (studio and lecture).
  • Utilize effective teaching methods to ensure that all course outcomes are met.
  • Support the Architectural Engineering Technology program including new course development and curriculum improvement.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Fulfill institutional service duties within the School, College, University, and community.
  • Engage in student-related activities such as supervising student projects, advising student organizations, and coaching student teams for competitions.
  • Provide end of the semester course assessment data.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
