About The Position

This role involves providing instruction in Microsoft Applications and Business subjects, utilizing various teaching strategies including lectures, group activities, labs, and computer utilization. The instructor will be responsible for student evaluation, recordkeeping, and staying current with developments in their subject areas. Additionally, the position requires participation in division and college meetings, serving as an academic advisor to students, and developing/revising course curriculum and educational materials. The instructor will also function as a member of the Business Program Team and, if a new instructor, will develop an individualized development plan. A key aspect of the role is promoting a culture of belonging and supporting college policies related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Business Education, Information Technology, Instructional Technology, or Adult Education, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a business setting or secondary or post-secondary teaching experience in business education.
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is required within one year of employment.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Education, or a closely related business discipline may be accepted in place of a completed Master’s Degree, provided the applicant commits to earning a Master’s Degree within two (2) years of hire.
  • The Master’s Degree must include at least 18 graduate credit hours in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related business discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each assigned course, including Microsoft Applications I and II, using a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress, including assessment of submissions.
  • Remain current in events and developments related to subject areas through in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and self-study.
  • Participate in scheduled Business/Division/College staff meetings and serve on committees and teams, including assessment and strategic planning.
  • Serve as an academic adviser to approximately 60-80 students, assisting with course selection and registration, reviewing student files each semester, and acting as a liaison between students and college staff.
  • Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on approved college curriculum forms.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain evaluation instruments, classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use.
  • Instruct students on the use and application of appropriate computer software using textbook materials, tutorials, and demonstrations.
  • Instruct students and monitor their progress on applications of computer software such as spreadsheets, word processing, accounting software, and other appropriate business software, currently including Office 365 (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook).
  • Interact with colleagues, students, staff, and supervisors to project a positive image of the program and college, and to promote institutional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation.
  • Develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction (for new instructors).
  • Work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
  • Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered.
  • Foster a community where each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment.
