Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of postdoctoral research experience in medicinal chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and synthesis of small molecules for medicinal chemistry applications.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of scientific productivity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with experience in nucleoside synthesis will be given special consideration.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including experience guiding research teams and mentoring junior scientists, are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, synthesize, and characterize small molecule compounds using modern medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry approaches.
  • Develop and conduct innovative research studies to advance drug discovery and preclinical development.
  • Secure, manage, and expand externally funded research programs through competitive grant applications. The instructor will also take a leadership role in writing and submitting grant proposals to federal and private funding agencies and will be responsible for preparing comprehensive technical and scientific reports.
  • Supervise and mentor research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and other trainees, providing scientific direction and fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • Collaborate with faculty members and institutional partners across multidisciplinary research programs.
  • Guide experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation to ensure scientific rigor and reproducibility.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and technical reports. The candidate will be expected to represent the laboratory and Emory University through invited talks, oral presentations, and posters at major national and international conferences, effectively communicating research advancements to the broader scientific community.
  • Contribute to the academic mission of the department through mentoring, collaborative research, and other scholarly activities.
