About The Position

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Knoxville Medicine is seeking a full-time non-tenure Instructor. This role involves serving as a professional role model and mentor for junior residents, leading clinical teams, and providing direct teaching and supervision. The position maintains active clinical responsibilities with increased leadership expectations, including leading diagnostic and treatment planning discussions, and partnering with program directors to evaluate and improve residency training and lead quality improvement projects.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree.
  • Board eligibility/certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Active medical license in Tennessee (or eligibility).

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a professional role model and mentor for junior residents.
  • Leads clinical teams during patient care activities, including serving as attending in the Internal Medicine Clinic twice a week for half a day.
  • Attends one ICU shift per week from 5:00 PM to midnight, providing supervision and guidance.
  • Covers six weeks annually of inpatient service on Team 2.
  • Acts as a liaison between residents and faculty to foster communication and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Coordinates resident schedules, calls, and rotation assignments; manages time-off requests and schedule changes.
  • Assists with recruitment and onboarding of new residents and interns, including interviews and orientation activities.
  • Organizes and leads educational activities such as noon conferences, board preparation sessions, and journal clubs.
  • Provides direct teaching and supervision during clinic and ICU shifts.
  • Collaborates with program leadership to develop curriculum enhancements and wellness initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Program Director and Associate Program Director, overseeing the Clinician Educator Track.
  • Serves as instructor for the SIM Lab and POCUS.
  • Maintains active clinical responsibilities with increased leadership expectations.
  • Leads diagnostic and treatment planning discussions in the clinic and ICU shifts.
  • Partners with program directors to evaluate and improve residency training and leads quality improvement projects focused on patient care and resident education.
