Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science from an American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) accredited institution OR Associate degree in Funeral Services from an American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) accredited institution with Bachelor of Science in Business, Natural Sciences or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience as a Funeral Director.
  • At least two (2) years of work must have occurred within the last five years OR Two (2) years of teaching Funeral Service course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years preferred.
  • Current license as a Funeral Director/Embalming by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
  • Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook).
  • Experience with a voice mail system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies: Online Information Management Systems - Experience with INFOnline or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course management systems.
  • Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of teaching Funeral Service course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver engaging instruction in accordance with established curriculum guidelines.
  • Manage classroom/laboratory environments to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Develop, monitor, and revise curriculum to maintain course effectiveness and relevance.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for instructional activities.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Advises students on academic matters and provides guidance to support their educational journey.
  • Collaborate with advisory committees, colleagues, and industry partners to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings to contribute to academic planning and decision-making.
  • Promote educational programs, participate in student recruitment efforts, and support initiatives to retain students.
  • Support student organizations and activities to enrich their educational experience.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business and industry partners to facilitate student opportunities and program growth.
  • Complete program evaluations, engage in continuous professional development, and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the institution.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $40 per course hour of teaching.
  • Compensation for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time, which is equivalent to $70 per hour.
