Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM Pathway or designee, teach assigned courses and develop curriculum and program content including locating sources of funding for Environmental Health and Water Quality Technology program expansion of newly developed certificate based courses which focus on global water quality issues, water and climate change and advanced wastewater technologies and treatments. This position requires that the candidate instruct courses at MATC campuses in either day and/or evening programs. Related duties include curriculum development, participation in departmental and campus activities, and other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Health/Public Health with a focus in Environmental Health or a related field such as Environmental Sciences and Safety.
  • A minimum of two (2) years full-time or equivalent (4000 hours) of Environmental Health experience which includes two (2) or more of the following areas: Food and Dairy Safety; Air Quality Monitoring; Industrial Hygiene and Water Quality.
  • In addition, one of the following must be met: Two (2) years must have occurred within the last five years OR Two (2) years of teaching Environmental Health coursework at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
  • Must meet State of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) instruction standards.
  • Must meet Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards (if applicable).
  • Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate the MATC Standards of Teaching Excellence in development and delivery of instruction.
  • Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook).
  • Experience with a voice mail system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google.
  • Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course management systems.
  • Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Sanitarian (RS) with WI Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)- National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly preferred.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn online information management systems.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Blackboard Ultra.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn technology-based instructional delivery systems.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching.
  • Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour.
