About The Position

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses and laboratories. The instructor will guide the class, maintain accurate student records, prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour, and ensure a safe and orderly learning environment. Responsibilities include grading student work, counseling students on their progress, maintaining necessary North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services records, and keeping appropriate certifications and credentials current. The role also involves maintaining contact with business and industry, assisting with graduate placement, participating in student recruiting and advising, and securing college assets. Additionally, the instructor will maintain a program of safety, construct classroom materials, design curriculum and schedules, maintain office hours, stay updated on teaching methods and technology, use assessment techniques to improve learning, serve on committees, attend professional development, assist with course goals and objectives, and communicate with other instructors to ensure course relevance. Participation in graduation exercises and continuous improvement through an annual applied benchmark project are also expected.

Requirements

  • Associate degree
  • Credentialed as a North Carolina Paramedic or as a National Registry Paramedic with eligibility for reciprocity to obtain a North Carolina Paramedic credential
  • Credentialed as a North Carolina Level I Paramedic Instructor or equivalent
  • Two years of experience teaching in a post-secondary educational environment
  • Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
  • Be innovative, creative, motivated
  • Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others from all socio-economic groups
  • Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including, Microsoft Office, computers, and web-based resources such as BlackBoard.
  • Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include day, evening and Saturdays as needed
