About The Position

The University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Health Sciences Department is seeking applications for an Occupational Therapy Assistant, Academic Fieldwork Coordinator Instructor position. This position is located in the Health Sciences Department as an Instructor Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring our program’s compliance with ACOTE standards while fostering excellence in both didactic and fieldwork education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field AND 3 years of experience in fieldwork supervision OR 3 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development & administration in an accredited OT or OTA program.
  • Current OT or OTA Hawai‘i State licensure.
  • A master's degree or a baccalaureate degree that was awarded prior to July 1, 2015, from an institution that was not regionally or nationally accredited is considered acceptable to meet this standard.
  • For degrees from institutions in countries other than the United States, ACOTE® will determine an alternative and equivalent external review process.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant.
  • Successful teaching and clinical experience in OT/OTA practice.
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience with program budgeting, knowledge of curriculum development, tests, and measurements.
  • Understanding the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and clinical personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Familiarity with information and other technological trends and developments in the OT/OTA field.
  • Leadership, vision, and skills to represent the program statewide and at the national level.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate the fieldwork academic program.
  • Continuously develop didactic and fieldwork phases of the curriculum.
  • Review and revise program standards for admission and graduation.
  • Work with the program advisory committee to ensure the program meets the needs of the healthcare community.
  • Teach and assess classroom, lab, and/or community-based instruction in terms of end-of-program and course learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement teaching and assessment strategies and methods to improve learning outcomes, address diverse student learning needs, integrate thinking and writing skills, and use multi-media resources.
  • Prepare course syllabi and maintain office hours for academic advising and conferring with students.
  • Prepare graduating students for the certification exam.
  • Engage in curriculum design, student advisement, and provide service to the department and college.
  • Engage in professional development and scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
  • Engage in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise.
