About The Position

This faculty member will teach four, 3-credit classes in HSU’s undergraduate and graduate Criminal Justice programs each Fall and Spring semester (i.e., eight classes during each academic year), as well as mentor and advise students in these programs. This position may become tenure track based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. The position is a Full-Time, Exempt Level Faculty position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. In addition to teaching, this position often requires extensive evening and/or week-end work in order to meet academic deadlines and/or to attend various campus events, graduation ceremonies, etc. Ability to travel for recruiting or training is desired.

Requirements

A master's degree in Criminal Justice or related field is required.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Candidate must profess a Christian Faith, maintain membership in a local congregation, and respect the values and distinctives central to the historically Baptist values of HSU as reflected in the University's Statement of Faith.

Nice To Haves

A doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.
Four to ten years’ law enforcement experience is preferred.
Active law enforcement commission is preferred.
Evidence of teaching abilities and experience teaching in higher education are preferred.
Demonstrated experience cultivating partnerships with justice system practitioners is preferred.
Ability to travel for recruiting or training is desired.

Responsibilities

Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the community.
Participate in external and internal recruitment opportunities.
Collaborate in efforts to increase student retention and success.
Direct and oversee the student Criminal Justice Association to include planning events, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Participate in departmental curriculum and program development.
Provide service to the university through involvement with committees and university activities. (e.g., commencement).
Maintain a professional affiliation with community partners and other agencies in an effort to provide internship and career opportunities for students.
