About The Position

The University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) is a public liberal arts and sciences university on the Island of Hawaii, recognized for its integration of cultural immersion and place-based research that leverages the island’s extraordinary geological, biological, and cultural diversity. A comprehensive, regional campus within the ten-campus University of Hawaii system, UH Hilo offers high-quality undergraduate and select postgraduate education, with distinctive strengths in areas such as marine science, geology, astronomy, and Hawaiian language revitalization, while advancing research, scholarship, and creative activity that support community needs, environmental stewardship, Indigenous knowledge systems, and workforce development priorities for the State of Hawaii. Housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the UH Hilo Art Department offers a Bachelor of Arts program that uniquely integrates traditional studio arts (drawing, painting, and printmaking) with modern digital media (animation, graphic design, and data visualization). The UH Hilo art program encourages students to develop their skills in both realms to prepare them for today’s art world. The program fosters professional and conceptual growth through combined digital and traditional media pursuits, allowing students to work creatively in online as well as physical environments in the artistically inspirational setting of the Big Island of Hawaii. The instructor of art provides high-quality instruction within the digital media curriculum, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses: in-person, scheduled or asynchronous online formats as appropriate, as well as traditional foundation studio courses in drawing, painting and 2D design when needed. Beyond the classroom, the successful candidate will play a key role in the promotion and growth of the Digital Media pathways, collaborating with fellow faculty to maintain a cohesive departmental vision.
