Under the supervision of the Associate Dean or designee, this instructional position involves teaching lectures and laboratory (clinical) courses in the Anesthesiology Technology Associate degree program. The instructor will plan, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student performance during extended laboratory (clinical) experiences. Related duties include participation in division and department activities and other duties as assigned. Assignments may include evenings and/or weekends.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associates' degree (AAAS/AA) or higher in Anesthesia Technology.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent (6,000 hours) experience as an Anesthesia Technologist.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years.
  • OR Two (2) years of teaching Anesthesia Technology course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
  • Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer. A.T.T.) certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologist (ASATT) must be obtained with one year of hire.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain curriculum currency.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software related to instructional area including MS Office/Google Suite, data systems, mobile technologies, web conference tools, and social networking; and knowledge of, or willing to learn, Blackboard or similar learning management system (LMS) preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Must have knowledge of assessment of student academic competency attainment.
  • Must be able to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction.
  • Email - Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)
  • Telephone - Experience with a voice mail system
  • Computer - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google
  • Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems.
  • Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications).
  • Must satisfactorily complete health screen requirements for the Healthcare Pathway, which include a criminal background check, drug test, and verification of immunizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments including in-person and online.
  • Experience using a variety of instructional methods including: face-to-face, blended, and 100% online preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with engaged and service learning strongly required.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies: Online Information Management Systems
  • Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in filed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching.
  • Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour.
