About The Position

The purpose of this position is to assist the College in fulfilling its mission by facilitating student acquisition of the required knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for success in the physical therapy profession. The Instructor and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education manages the Physical Therapist Assistant Clinical Education Program, develops and refines the clinical education component of the curriculum, and provides teaching, supervision, and evaluation of student learning experiences. This role also involves collaboration with faculty, clinical instructors, and agencies to optimize learning opportunities and contributes to policy formation for the College and/or program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline.
  • Valid and current Physical Therapist Assistant license.
  • Three years full-time clinical experience as a physical therapist assistant.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting education, students, and the profession of physical therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience providing guidance or training to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Current member of the American Physical Therapy Association preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience in a physical therapist assistant academic program or equivalent coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Physical Therapist Assistant Clinical Education Program to be in full compliance with all standards established by state/national accreditation agencies.
  • Develops, monitors, and refines the clinical education component of the curriculum, facilitating quality learning experiences for students during clinical education.
  • Evaluates students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
  • Educates students, clinical and academic faculty about clinical education.
  • Selects clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice.
  • Maximizes available resources for the clinical education program.
  • Provides documented records and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc).
  • Actively engages core faculty clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Provides teaching, supervision and evaluation of student learning experiences.
  • Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.
  • Collaborates with the Program Chair to ensure the curriculum meets or exceeds the outcomes of the program by developing, implementing, assessing and revising components as directed.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and assessments.
  • Collaborates with other faculty, clinical instructors, and clinical agencies to provide optimum learning opportunities for students.
  • Develops, implements and revises course content in assigned subject areas.
  • Participates in scholarly activities (e.g. grant writing, research, college projects, publications, creative teaching strategies, presentation of programs/papers/abstracts/posters to professional organizations).
  • Participates in the processes of quality improvement.
  • Contributes to policy formation for the College and/or program.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
