About The Position

Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) is accepting applications for a full-time Instructional Support Technician. This position provides technical support for classroom technology, audiovisual equipment, multimedia systems, and campus-wide special events. The Instructional Support Technician installs, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots instructional and event technology and provides technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, and other university departments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Audiovisual Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual equipment and technology.
  • Knowledge of computers, laptops, projectors, displays, instructor podiums, microphones, speakers, recording equipment, and related instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of basic audio systems, video streaming, webinar technology, and event technology.
  • Knowledge of equipment installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and proper storage.
  • Knowledge of basic troubleshooting and customer service practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in setting up and operating audiovisual equipment for classroom, meeting, and special event environments.
  • Skill in operating sound systems, microphones, recording equipment, displays, projectors, and streaming technology.
  • Skill in installing and updating computer software and instructional technology.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, classrooms, events, and equipment needs while meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology, software, and equipment.
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and other university departments.
  • Ability to physically set up, move, connect, operate, and break down audiovisual and computer equipment up to 30lbs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an ITS team and assist with training and directing student employees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle university information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a University setting supporting computers, classroom technology, audiovisual equipment, streaming technology, electrical systems, or special events is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot classroom computers, laptops, projectors, displays, instructor podiums, and other instructional technology.
  • Monitor classrooms and instructional technology spaces to identify and resolve equipment problems in a timely manner.
  • Maintain classroom audiovisual equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and break down audiovisual equipment for classes, meetings, presentations, and campus-wide special events.
  • Provide audio support, including sound systems, microphones, speakers, recording equipment, and related technology.
  • Prepare and organize equipment in advance to support efficient and accurate event setups.
  • Provide technical support during live events and troubleshoot problems to minimize interruptions and downtime.
  • Assist with the installation and deployment of televisions, multimedia equipment, and other instructional technology throughout campus.
  • Assist with equipment repairs, service requests, surplus activities, and equipment storage.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding equipment repairs, service needs, installations, and technical issues.
  • Provide accurate and informative technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, vendors, and university departments.
  • Work independently while recognizing when issues require assistance or escalation to the supervisor or other ITS staff.
