About The Position
The Instructional Support Specialist (ISS) role at Devereux Brandywine School in West Chester, PA, supports teachers by assisting with the academic, social, and behavioral needs of assigned clients. This position involves implementing basic educational programming, performing duties as directed by administrators or teachers, and providing individual tutoring or one-on-one support for students with special needs. The role emphasizes ensuring the health and safety of youth, supporting PBIS goals, and reporting daily progress. The Brandywine School utilizes a multi-sensory educational strategy, incorporating traditional instruction, hands-on learning, and technology to individualize student progress, with a particular focus on math and reading. A key aspect of the school program is preparing students for transition from school to career. Devereux's approved private schools aim to equip students with the necessary tools to succeed upon returning to their local schools and communities. Students may attend as day students or as part of residential treatment, with each student having an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) to guide their goals and learning strategies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Associates Degree or completion of two years of post-secondary education from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Previous experience working in a special education or behavioral healthcare setting with students with severe/complex behavioral/emotional issues preferred.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the health and safety of youth in the school
- Provide assistance with academic, social and behavioral needs.
- Support the teacher and administration's direction while supporting youth and reporting progress daily.
- Support and reinforce PBIS goals and objectives
