About The Position

The Title 1 Instructional Paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of the Classroom Teacher, Building Principal, or Federal Programs Director. The primary goal of this position is to support qualifying students in achieving their educational goals through targeted individual, small-group, and whole-group instruction, while helping maintain an effective, positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate degree.
  • Successful completion of at least two years of higher education study (32 credit hours).
  • Passing score on the Praxis ParaPro Assessment.
  • Prior experience working with school-aged children preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills, with a positive and supportive approach toward students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated capability to fulfill all core duties and responsibilities outlined below.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds (and up to 50 pounds as needed for specific student care requirements).
  • Physical capacity to block or redirect students when necessary for safety.
  • Ability to effectively assist staff in implementing behavioral interventions, including safety-related physical restraint and seclusion procedures when required.
  • Clear verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents.
  • Upon hire, selected candidates must successfully pass a criminal justice fingerprinting and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in delivering effective, high-quality instructional programs.
  • Provide individualized and small-group instructional activities using materials and learning sequences prescribed by the teacher and related specialists.
  • Reinforce concepts, materials, and skills introduced by the certified teacher.
  • Promptly and helpfully answer student questions and assist with classroom learning activities.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as directed by the teacher.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and engaging classroom climate through active support, including bulletin board creation, learning material development, and classroom organization.
  • Communicate classroom rules and encourage students to meet behavioral standards.
  • Supervise and manage student behavior across various school settings (e.g., classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground).
  • Implement behavior management and disciplinary strategies consistent with teacher guidelines, school policies, and district standards.
  • Utilize empathetic reinforcement strategies tailored to individual student needs, interests, and capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely program records and clerical documentation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic educational principles, due process procedures, and strict confidentiality guidelines regarding student records and information.
  • Safely operate and care for educational technology and instructional equipment.
  • Serve as a key reference and resource person for substitute teachers in the primary teacher's absence.
  • Attend required staff meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Maintain professional conduct, abide by district policies, adhere to the established chain of command, and perform other duties as assigned.
