About The Position

The Instructional Paraprofessional - Elementary position is responsible for providing support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom. This includes assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in a resource classroom, implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior outside of the classroom, and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

Requirements

  • Age 16+
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs of students.
  • Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Assists data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
  • Assists students with self-care activities (e.g. toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming., etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Attends job-specific trainings and meetings for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
  • Demonstrates appropriate role modeling for the purpose of guiding students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
  • Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment, work area, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Provides, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP and/or 504 plans; and ensuring student success in school.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
  • Supervises and escorts kids to/from classes for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
