About The Position

The Instructional Leader, Florida Scholars Academy plays a crucial role in providing leadership and support in the administration of a safe, inclusive, and academically enriching environment within the juvenile justice system. This position requires a dedicated and adaptable professional who is committed to fostering positive student development and promoting educational success. Under the direction of the Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy, this position assists in managing the Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) and its human resources to attain school goals by providing evidence of effective instruction that results in student achievement, as recognized through defined learning gains and survey results. This position supports the instructional process with specific responsibility for managing assigned programs/services; providing information/serving as a resource to others; and supervising assigned staff. This position will also oversee the personal and professional growth activities of assigned staff. This position performs a variety of duties including but not limited to the scheduling, facilitating, and monitoring of the instructional program, building and maintaining culture and values among new and returning instructors via training and support, liaising with departments outside Instruction to support their program, observing and evaluating instructors, and reporting back to the Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Valid Professional Florida Professional Teaching Certificate with Educational Leadership
  • Three years’ successful teaching experience
  • External candidates must have at least one full year of experience in an Assistant Principal or Principal position
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision, training, and development of instructors
  • Ability to work with and through people to establish goals, objectives, and action plans
  • Strong knowledge of instructional strategies
  • Strong knowledge of online instructional design theories
  • Strong knowledge of learning style theories
  • Strong knowledge of educational leadership strategies
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possesses knowledge of technical issues affecting the organization
  • Displays proficiency in organization and coordination skills
  • Works as a team member and leader
  • Employs innovative problem-solving techniques to accomplish objectives
  • Possesses skills with all applicable and recommended FLVS computer applications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, monitor, observe, and conduct the evaluation of designated instructors and staff regarding their performance and responsibilities in the achievement of program goals and priorities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the instructional program.
  • Work to support the objectives of the program being delivered by the curriculum and literacy teams.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Florida Scholars Academy’s training programs as it relates to preparing and supporting teachers and staff in the program.
  • Review monthly progress reports and other ancillary data to identify areas of concern in regard to student and instructor performance.
  • Review and report on student progress and performance to ensure alignment of the program via state progress monitoring requirements.
  • Monitor departmental compliance with accountability measures.
  • Utilize resources and coaching from the Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy to maximize professional growth and performance.
  • Manage, control, direct, and supervise assigned direct reports, including general leadership, planning, organizing, and reviewing.
  • Work in collaboration with the Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy to facilitate the developing and mentoring of instructional staff.
  • Serve as an instructional coach for assigned instructional staff.
  • Facilitate onsite collaboration with Professional Standards and the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) on reporting incidents.
  • Support any other academic related topic established at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, Florida Scholars Academy or Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
