About The Position

The Instructional Interventionist - Reading position at Alabaster City Schools is responsible for providing intensive, targeted literacy instruction to students in Grades 6-8, focusing on students with specific literacy needs, particularly those related to dyslexia. The role involves preparing and delivering explicit, systematic, and differentiated small-group instruction designed to accelerate the progress of struggling readers. The interventionist will also monitor and evaluate student progress, maintain accurate records, assist with school-wide testing and dyslexia screening, and serve as a resource for students, parents, and faculty.

Requirements

  • The required Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree and advanced coursework or professional development in the science of reading or comparable alternative training approved by the Alabama State Board of Education.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a successful elementary or literacy teacher.
  • Knowledge of scientifically based reading research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and intervention, dyslexia-specific interventions, and data analysis.
  • Be proficient in technology usage for instruction and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve professional competence in the area of intervention related to reading deficiencies, especially related to dyslexia.
  • Prepare for intervention and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Deliver explicit and systematic instruction, in a small group format, that is differentiated, targeted, and designed to accelerate the most struggling of readers with specific deficiencies in lowest deficit skills.
  • Monitor progress regularly, maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records. Maintain confidentiality of student data in the process.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and in accordance with the system's established procedures.
  • Serve as a resource or make referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist with school-wide testing programs, including screening for dyslexia.
  • Participate as a valued faculty member, maintaining professional and cooperative relationships with teachers, students, and the community.
  • Make reasonable provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Perform other related duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.
