About The Position

Two positions are available for this job for the academic year of 2027-2028. The hired undergraduate Instructional Facilitators (IFs) will assist Dr. Branton for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project developing and testing High Performance Computing (HPC) course modules, and supporting instructors who use them. This appointment emphasizes learning HPC essentials, testing and refining instructional activities, and preparing clear instructor support materials. This is a paid position at $15 per hour for 144 total hours per student for the year, including summer 2027 ($2,160 in NSF budgeted wages per student per year). Workdays and hours will be arranged with the supervisor. Students must record actual hours worked on timesheets. Training, meetings, and assigned summer work count toward the same 144-hour total.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student with an interest in computing and STEM education
  • Willingness to learn HPC tools
  • Ability to test activities carefully, document issues, and communicate clearly
  • Must be a regular, full-time student, enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with Financial Aid for the current academic year

Nice To Haves

  • Programming skills or some computer science coursework is desirable but not required

Responsibilities

  • Complete training in HPC essentials and the skills, tools, and procedures needed for assigned course modules.
  • Test course modules and document technical problems, confusing instructions, and suggested improvements.
  • Help refine modules and develop instructor support materials under Dr. Branton’s direction.
  • Assist instructors with module use and help troubleshoot system or process issues within the student’s training; refer unresolved issues to Dr. Branton.
  • Use assigned summer 2027 hours for continued training, testing, refinement, and support-material preparation, as scheduled by Dr. Branton.
