About The Position

Reporting to the Clinical Program Manager- RN Informatics, the Instructional Designer partners with Nursing Professional Development (NPD) educators, NPD specialists, NPD informatics, system leaders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based learning solutions supporting onboarding, competency management, continuing education, and systemwide practice initiatives. As a key member of the leadership team, the Instructional Designer facilitates learning, to advance care excellence, promote Brown University Health’s mission of “Delivering health with care” and guide actions that support Brown University Health’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Analyzes learning needs through collaboration with NPD educators, NPD specialists, system leaders, and SMEs. Uses data, learner feedback, performance metrics, regulatory standards, and safety trends to identify gaps and inform instructional design strategies. Designs and develops high‑quality education including e‑learning modules, videos, simulations, infographics, job aids, instructor‑led materials, blended learning programs, and just‑in‑time microlearning. Uses adult learning principles, accessibility standards, and instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, or rapid design models. Builds and manages content within the Learning Management System (LMS) including course creation, assignments, version control, reporting, and optimization of user experience. Partners with Nursing Education Leadership team and LMS administrators to ensure accurate workflows, reliable tracking, and compliance with accreditation requirements. Aligns all education with accreditation criteria and regulatory standards. Ensures content is accurate, current, and consistent with clinical policy and evidence‑based practice. Collaborates closely with NPD educators, NPD specialists, system leaders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate clinical expertise into effective and engaging instructional strategies. Facilitates design meetings, content reviews, and iterative improvements based on feedback. Serves as a change agent by anticipating barriers and implementing strategies that enhance adoption and sustainment of new practices, technologies, and workflows. Partners with leadership to align education with organizational priorities. Evaluates program effectiveness using learner feedback, outcome metrics, and performance data. Identifies opportunities for improvement and updates materials to keep pace with evolving clinical and organizational priorities. Leverages emerging technologies and innovation including multimedia production, screen‑capture tools, virtual simulation, mobile learning, and AI‑supported content development to enhance learner engagement and accessibility. Maintains documentation, project plans, and versioning to support accreditation readiness, regulatory audits, and consistent educational standards across the system. Serves as a consultant and resource to NPD educators, NPD specialists, NPD informatics and system leaders regarding instructional design, adult learning theory, technology integration, and best practices in clinical education. Interviews for new hires/transfers and select applicants in collaboration with the Nursing Education leadership team. Mentors and coaches nursing education to support retention, staff engagement, and professional growth, while implementing initiatives that improve job satisfaction and workforce stability. Performs other related duties as assigned to support departmental operations, organizational priorities, and the evolving needs of nursing education.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional/Educational Technology, or related field required
  • 2–4 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, e‑learning development, or relevant clinical education required
  • Expertise in instructional design models, adult learning theory, and assessment/evaluation methods
  • Proficiency with e‑learning authoring tool(s) such as Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline, Camtasia, Vyond, etc.
  • Strong project‑management and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to translate complex clinical information into simple, accessible educational content
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and change‑management skills
  • Comfort with learning technologies/LMS and data-informed decision making

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the healthcare setting preferred
  • Experience developing multimedia content preferred

Responsibilities
