Instructional Designer - Accessible Learning Materials Lead
About The Position
Under general supervision of the Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, the instructional designer collaborates and consults with faculty, academic leadership, and other educators to enhance pedagogy and improve student success across all instructional modes (in-person, hybrid, and online). A primary responsibility will be to lead the CTLT’s accessibility efforts in support of campus goals for accessibility compliance, including overseeing remediation service operations and student employees, and supporting accessibility in the campus learning management system. With specific emphasis on current best practices for evidence-based inclusive, accessible, and innovative instructional materials and practices, this role integrates Universal Design for Learning (UDL), interactive course design, culturally responsive teaching, equitable assessment, and learning analytics to foster student engagement and academic success. The incumbent exercises advanced discernment and in-depth knowledge of learning theory and best practices, university policies and guidelines as well as emerging instructional technology tools and methodologies to determine appropriate action. When needed, they develop new approaches, techniques, and innovation to address issues. Decision-making is based on teaching pedagogy and academic technology best practices; university policy and guidelines; higher education reporting protocols and standards as well as overall university strategies and goals. Work is focused on ensuring alignment with overall objectives. The incumbent handles multiple work priorities and may provide lead work with accountability for results as well as promotes understanding of and compliance with institutional policies, standards, procedures, and regulations regarding instructional accessibility, copyright, FERPA (privacy), and information security.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and practices, interactive course design, culturally responsive curricula, rubric development, formative assessment, and learning analytics.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge and experience supporting faculty adoption of inclusive teaching practices, ensuring accessibility, and applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) practices in course design and teaching.
- Advanced knowledge in instructional design, technology integration, inclusive, accessible, innovative and online instructional materials and pedagogical practices.
- Advanced knowledge of academic technology trends and emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to research and evaluate new instructional and accessibility technologies to meet a wide variety of instructional needs as well as an interest and ability to maintain and enhance technology skills and knowledge.
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience.
- Additional experience that demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
