About The Position

The Instructional coach will partner with staff to improve instructional practices, implement district and building initiatives, and deliver job-embedded professional learning to increase student achievement. This role focuses on impacting instruction through coaching, maintaining a culture of MTSS, and fostering professional relationships. The coach will collaborate with teachers as equal partners, provide demonstrations of teaching approaches, and offer ongoing support. They will also train staff on evidence-based practices and facilitate data-based decision-making. The position requires supporting district and building initiatives, conducting classroom observations, collecting data, and creating a communication plan for professional learning. Additionally, the coach is expected to complete specific trainings within the first two years, such as Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience in a variety of grade levels is required.
  • Current Kansas Teaching license at the Elementary level required.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience presenting to large groups and small groups of adult learners.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision; willing to initiate and finish projects on own initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to organize, communicate effectively, make decisions, work independently, and work as a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, build trust, collaborate, meet deadlines, and work in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed.
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player.
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate reflection on instructional practices and responses through coaching.
  • Collaborate with teachers as equal partners to transfer learning into practice.
  • Provide demonstrations of specific teaching approaches through co-planning, co-teaching, and modeling.
  • Provide ongoing support and real-time coaching as staff implements instructional practices/strategies.
  • Differentiate adult learning experiences to make content relevant and enable learning.
  • Train teachers, principals, and other instructional staff on targeted evidence-based instructional practices/strategies for academics and behavior.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state standards, evidenced-based practices, and district curriculum to facilitate instructional support in all curricular areas.
  • Train and support implementation of the district Assessment Protocol.
  • Facilitate data-based decision-making protocols to inform school improvement decisions.
  • Promote consensus-building, infrastructure development/refinement, and effective MTSS implementation.
  • Collaborate with other building leaders to ensure the fidelity of instructional practices and implementation of district protocols.
  • Foster professional relationships with building principals, lead coaches, teachers, and support staff.
  • Maintain a level of confidentiality that positively contributes to the school environment.
  • Attend all Friday Learning Lab sessions and other professional development activities.
  • Support implementation of district and building initiatives.
  • Conduct classroom observations to monitor for evidence of professional learning implementation.
  • Collect relevant data and collaborate with the leadership team to plan and provide future learning opportunities.
  • Support and model ongoing professional growth in self and others.
  • Create and administer a communication plan that provides professional learning, important upcoming information, and an overview of the coach's work priorities and availability on a weekly basis.
  • Complete specific trainings (e.g., Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools) and incorporate practices into work with staff.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
