About The Position

At The Spire School, we provide therapeutic education for college-bound students in grades 6–12. The Instructional Coach serves as a teacher leader who partners with educators to strengthen instructional practices, improve student outcomes, and foster continuous professional growth across our middle and high school programs. The ideal candidate has successful experience working with middle and high school students with diverse learning, executive functioning, and social-emotional needs and is passionate about supporting teachers through coaching, mentoring, and professional learning. This position works closely with school leadership, teachers, clinicians, and related service providers to strengthen curriculum, assessment, instructional practices, and special education programming while promoting a collaborative culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Connecticut certification in Special Education, Reading, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a special education setting
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum design, instructional coaching, differentiated instruction, and educational assessment
  • Strong knowledge of Connecticut special education regulations, IEP development, and progress monitoring
  • Experience with Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) or other trauma-informed, relationship-based practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instructional coaching and mentoring to teachers through classroom observations, feedback, collaborative planning, and job-embedded coaching
  • Design and facilitate engaging professional development focused on evidence-based instructional practices, assessment, executive functioning, and special education
  • Support curriculum development, instructional planning, and implementation of school-wide academic initiatives
  • Coordinate and support the administration of school-wide assessments and assist teachers in using student data to inform instruction and monitor progress
  • Support teachers in developing high-quality educational documentation, including progress monitoring, IEPs, and instructional planning
  • Collaborate with administration on school improvement initiatives, accreditation efforts, and instructional decision-making.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, admissions processes, and student support planning.
  • Lead instructional planning and professional learning during August Professional Development and throughout the school year.
  • Stay current with research-based instructional practices and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
