About The Position

Instructional Coaches lead and facilitate changes in the instructional practices of Chavez teachers. This aims to improve student outcomes, enhance teacher job satisfaction, and sustain professional learning communities throughout the system.

Requirements

  • A Master's in Teaching in either ELA or Math is required
  • A completed and passed praxis 1 & 2 is required
  • Must have obtained a teacher's license within the last 7 years
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in content area on the secondary level (grades 6-12), ability to demonstrate knowledge in multiple math subject areas is required
  • A student-centered approach to teaching and learning is required.
  • Must be comfortable working within urban environments
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to move student achievement and growth at a rapid and intentional pace
  • Must be able to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and celebrate both teachers and scholars

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DC PCSB ASPIRE framework is preferred
  • Familiarity with preparing students (and teachers) for state standardized assessments (DC CAPE) and national assessments MAP, AP, SAT, PSAT, ACCESS, etc is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support and guide Humanities and STEM teachers through coaching, modeling, observation, and feedback cycles, and the implementation of data-driven instruction to enhance teacher practice to meet the schoolwide ASPIRE metrics
  • Plan and lead school-wide professional development and content team meetings to ensure effective data analysis, monitoring student growth, and content knowledge development
  • Collaborate with school leadership to create coaching plans and professional learning opportunities aligned to school, teacher, and student needs
  • Ensure the learning needs of all students are met
  • Support the vertical alignment of our teaching and instruction for grades 6-12 and effective implementation of curricula and resources
  • Provide input and feedback on curricular options to ensure that high-quality products are put in front of scholars
  • Support school-based leadership teams in hiring
  • Provide feedback on classroom routines, procedures, and classroom management
  • Serve as a member of the school’s academic team
  • Teach a class or provide direct instruction to students, as needed, to support school operations and instructional priorities
  • Support Special Education instructors with co-planning and differentiated instruction
  • Support with all national and statewide standardized Testing (MAP, SAT, PSAT, CAPE, ACCESS, etc)
  • Support with the implementation of student Interventions
  • Support with morning entry, hallway transitions, dismissal, school lunch and safe passage
  • Support the school’s overall enrollment and re-enrollment efforts, including but not limited to participating in EdFest or other recruitment activities
  • Lead teachers in diagnosing specific learning needs and in developing a targeted plan of action to address identified areas of improvement
  • Analyze trends in student data using multiple sources that include academic and culture data
  • Coach teachers to create learning goals and track progress based on concrete data sources
  • Conduct instructional rounds with school leaders and teachers to collect data and make instructional and professional learning decisions based on trends in the data
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of teacher progress connected to coaching goals
  • Ensure teachers monitor student progress, making instructional decisions based on student achievement
  • Convene regularly with leadership to share teacher and student progress
  • Manage the review of Progress and Quarterly Report Cards, along with managing teacher failure rates
  • Engage in self-reflection and continuous improvement by implementing feedback from school leadership and participation in network-wide professional development
