About The Position

We are seeking to hire an inspiring, nurturing, thoughtful and detail-oriented educator to serve as an Instructional Coach in One City Schools. Applicants must have a deep passion for coaching and preparing educators to effectively teach children in one of the most unique and transformational public schools in Wisconsin. Our instructional coaches must be effective at teaching teachers, young children, and collaborating with a dynamic school leadership team, other team members, parents, service providers, volunteers and partners. Experience in project-based learning (e.g., expeditionary learning) a plus but not required. However, being committed to learning EL Education's expeditionary Learning model and implementing it with fidelity is a necessity.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City, and to working to with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years teaching experiences in a PK to grade 12 school setting, required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Teaching License, or eligibly for license.
  • Knowledge of and experience with student-centered curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Success working in an urban setting with students from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent judgment, communication and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive.
  • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
  • Completion of a background check required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project-based learning (e.g., expeditionary learning) a plus but not required.
  • Master's Degree in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in understanding One City's mission, core values and habits of character.
  • Teach/model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis, teaching lessons side-by-side with teachers, when appropriate.
  • Provide guidance, direction and coordination for implementing and utilizing the core practices of Expeditionary Learning, Eureka Math curriculum, data-analysis/data-informed instruction, and varied assessments.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  • Facilitate mutual problem solving to assist teachers in implementing and mastering new teaching practices.
  • Work with our Principal to organize One City's annual New Teacher Induction, Orientation and Training Program.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  • Support teachers by helping with the ".strategic how" of teaching -- share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
  • Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
  • Contribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
  • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
  • Implement other approved instructional coaching strategies.
  • Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our instructional, student support, and school leadership teams.
  • Attend Professional Development with One City's education partners, as necessary.
