About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and Program Coordinator, the primary role of the Instructional Coach-Mathematics is to support teaching and learning through modeling, coaching and professional development to improve and accelerate student achievement through quality curriculum and instruction. The Instructional Coach-Mathematics is a certified, highly-qualified teacher who demonstrates leadership skills and has expertise in curriculum, instructional strategies, classroom management, and adult learning theory. Requirements

  • State of Illinois Professional Educator License with Self-Contained General Education and/or required Endorsement for Grade Level
  • Mathematics certification or 18 hours in mathematics preferred
  • Five or more years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level preferred
  • Knowledge of adult learning processes and strategies
  • Demonstrated facilitation experience in providing adult professional development preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with RtI and tiered instruction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills required
  • Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Knowledge of the process of educational change
  • Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled listener, problem-solver and relationship builder.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching mathematics-including: Teaching strategies; Assessment of mathematical skills; Interpretation of assessment results, etc.
  • Research and prepare materials for use by the district, schools, and teachers-including: Teaching strategies; Assessment of mathematical skills; Interpretation of assessment results, etc.
  • Ensure professional development materials are aligned with best practices in adult learning, including clearly outlined learning outcomes and methods for assessing acquisition and application of skills.
  • Ensure professional development training and coaching activities are grounded in research based best practices.
  • Provide support for the ongoing development, improvement and evaluation of the district’s instructional programs.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in the development and implementation of the Common Core State Standards and continuing professional development.
  • Develop strategies for helping teachers make changes in instructional practices, assisting in the identification of student needs and the differentiation of instructional support.
  • Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative mathematical practices through various activities such as: Individual discussions; Coaching sessions; Demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis; Study groups; Staff meetings; and Professional development programs
  • Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate pilot process for instructional materials.
  • Team with classrooms and academic support teachers to guide the implementation of learning centers, the differentiation of student assignments, and the assessment of student performance.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Provide professional development at all district levels.
  • Work with the Program Coordinator to evaluate and enhance the mathematics curriculum for the Joliet Public Schools District 86.
  • Maintain commitment to ongoing professional development.
