About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with its Superintendent in achieving the goal of ensuring all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The district represents 35 schools and programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. The Instructional Coach Elementary (Science) will provide leadership and support for all District Science initiatives (Pre-K -5) and will work with the Director of Science and Technology to implement these programs. The position will report directly to the Director of Science and Technology and will serve as a member of the Teaching, Learning, and Growth Division.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in Science or a Related Field.
  • Broad-based knowledge of research about the teaching, learning and assessment of Science and Technology.
  • Strong working knowledge of the New York State curriculum requirements for Science and the NYSSLS Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and provide ongoing professional development and work successfully with teachers, building administrators and district level administrators in developing and implementing a research-based Science and Technology program.
  • Experience in technology applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and experience in developing and presenting professional development sessions
  • NYS Teaching Certification
  • Thorough understanding of NYSSLS Standards
  • Experience teaching FOSS Curriculum
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly effective organizational abilities

Responsibilities

  • Providing professional development for grades K-5
  • Analyze data with teachers to plan for instruction
  • Work directly with community partners such as the zoo, MOST, Nature in the City
  • Work directly with the FOSS team for ongoing implementation support
  • Creating K-5 Science pacing guides
  • Creating and ordering instructional materials
  • Fill inventory needs for individual teachers
  • Coaching for individual teachers
  • Assessment creating in online platforms
  • Supporting schools with the new NYS required 3-5 investigations
  • Manage and support online resources such as Padlet, ThinkLink, Castle and Science A-Z
  • Work directly with the science content liaisons for additional support in schools

  • Compensation is in accordance with the Unit 1 contractual agreement
  • Teachers may also have the opportunity to participate in our Summer School Programs, which are compensated at an hourly rate of $45.00.
