About The Position

The Instructional Assistant works with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher. This role involves providing instructional and clerical support to teachers and staff. Assignments can vary and may include classroom support, clerical duties, library assistance, lunchroom supervision, health room support, and playground monitoring.

Requirements

  • Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
  • Ability to read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others.
  • Understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation.

  • Valid State of Washington Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint and Background Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment as published by PESB.
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university.
  • Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Responsibilities

  • Administers tests, homework assignments, and make-up work to support teachers in the instructional process.
  • Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, reinforcing learning concepts and helping students achieve academic goals.
  • Attends meetings, in-service presentations, and trainings to acquire and convey job-related information.
  • Confers with teachers and/or parents to provide input on student progress and implement/modify student objectives.
  • Guides students in independent study for enrichment or remedial work to ensure student success.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under teacher supervision to assist in improving student academic success.
  • Maintains classroom resources, work areas, and student files/records, ensuring availability and providing reliable information.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various settings to identify needs and ensure a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions, such as copying, correcting papers, and verifying attendance, to support teachers.
  • Reports observations and incidents related to students to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Performs related duties consistent with the scope of the position.
