About The Position

Forest Grove School District is seeking dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Instructional Assistants to support the implementation of the 2026 Summer School Program. Instructional Assistants will work under the guidance of licensed teachers to provide high-quality instruction, foster student engagement, and ensure a supportive learning environment. This temporary position requires a passion for student success, flexibility, and the ability to implement instructional interventions in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. The Summer Learning Program is designed to: Strengthen literacy instruction and intervention practices. Support student engagement through meaningful discourse and collaboration. Provide hands-on science learning opportunities. Increase teacher and staff capacity through embedded professional learning. Create supportive and inclusive classroom environments for all students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with school-aged children in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Ability to follow instructional plans and implement feedback in real-time.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an instructional team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an Instructional Assistant or Paraprofessional.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
  • Experience with literacy intervention strategies or hands-on science curriculum.
  • Completion of district-required paraprofessional assessments or college coursework in education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small group and one-on-one instructional interventions in literacy and science.
  • Assist the lead teacher in maintaining a positive, safe, and engaging classroom culture.
  • Facilitate meaningful student discourse and collaborative learning activities.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials, hands-on science kits, and classroom resources.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and collecting data to inform instructional shifts.
  • Support student safety during transitions, arrivals, departures, and meal times.
  • Work closely with teachers, coordinators, and other support staff to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
