About The Position

The Instructional Assistant provides assistance to teachers, administrative assistants, and clerical personnel when needed. This role involves supporting student learning, administering tests, facilitating interventions, operating instructional equipment, and assisting with student supervision in various settings.

Requirements

  • Meets Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) qualifications, including an associate’s degree or 48 hours of college credit, or has passed the ParaProfessional Praxis test.
  • May be employed on a part-time or full-time basis.
  • Meets health and physical qualifications.
  • Ability to "catch on" or understand instructions and underlying principles, and ability to reason and make judgments.
  • Ability to understand meanings of words and associated ideas.
  • Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades.
  • Ability to make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shading.
  • Ability to move hands easily and skillfully.

Responsibilities

  • Administers, scores, and records achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
  • Facilitates student interventions with guidance and support from a classroom teacher.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Distributes and collects technology, workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Checks and records attendance.
  • Arranges bulletin boards.
  • Types and duplicates tests, worksheets, and supplementary materials.
  • Assists in supervising children in the lunchroom, playground, and bus loading.
  • Assists the teacher in assimilating materials for class displays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
