About The Position

The Instructional Assistant – Transitional Kindergarten provides paraprofessional instructional activities as directed by a teacher in the Transitional Kindergarten program. The role also performs related clerical duties, uses specialized skills to care for, supervise, and teach TK students, and carries out related tasks as required under the supervision of the classroom teacher and site administrator.

The position is part of an eligibility list used to fill current and future vacancies and provide substitutes for up to one year. Selection may include evaluation of application materials, written testing, an oral interview, and/or a performance test. Offers of employment are contingent on successful completion of a drug test, TB test, fingerprinting, and potentially a physical exam.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent; proof must be submitted with the application.
• Some paid or volunteer experience working with youth in an organized setting.
• Meet one of the following: completion of two years of study (48 semester units) at an institution of higher learning; an associate degree or higher; or passing a rigorous District-administered assessment demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and math.
• Submit a copy of an associate degree or higher, or a transcript documenting completion of 48 units. If fewer than 48 units have been completed, submit proof of high school graduation (diploma or GED).

Responsibilities

• Provide paraprofessional instructional activities as directed by a teacher in the Transitional Kindergarten program.
• Perform clerical duties related to the Transitional Kindergarten program.
• Care for, supervise, and teach TK students using specialized skills learned in the classification.
• Perform related tasks and duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher and site administrator.
