Instructional Assistant
About The Position
Working in Saddleback Valley Unified School District, this position supports students with special needs, specifically in an emotional support capacity. The Instructional Assistant will work with students to model appropriate behavior, provide emotional support, and assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and positive behavior support plans (PBSPs). This role also involves assisting with students' personal and medical needs, participating in team meetings and training, and utilizing crisis intervention techniques when necessary. The shift is Monday-Friday, 8am - 3:30pm.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience working in a special education or behavioral healthcare setting with students with severe/complex behavioral/emotional issues preferred.

Responsibilities
- Support and maintain classroom policies and procedures.
- Assist students by modeling appropriate behavior.
- Provide emotional support to students.
- Adopt a patient and friendly attitude towards students.
- Assist in the implementation of students’ individualized education program (IEP) and positive behavior support plan (PBSP) as directed by the teacher.
- Assist with student personal needs, when required, including medical needs in conjunction with the school-based health or nursing staff.
- Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
- Understand team goals and own role within the team.
- Support team decisions and cooperates with others within and outside the team.
- Utilize crisis physical intervention techniques under the direction of the teacher and as appropriate to the setting and the degree of threat to the safety of the student and others.
