About The Position

The Sheridan School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant to provide direct instruction and support to students under the supervision of a teacher. This role involves conducting instructional activities, working with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning concepts, and assisting students in achieving their academic goals and grade-level standards. The Instructional Assistant will also play a key role in classroom management, supervising students throughout the school day, preparing instructional materials, and maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment. Additionally, the position requires assisting with equipment inventory and maintenance, administrative records, and serving as a positive role model for students.

Requirements

  • Earn at least an Associate's Degree, 60 college hours of credit, or pass the Para-Professional Praxis Exam.
  • Pass an Arkansas State Police background check, an FBI background check, and a Department of Human Services background check.
  • Ability to work well with students of all ages and grade ranges.
  • Ability to use a desktop computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
  • See for the purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter and observing students.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
  • Bend and twist, kneel and stoop, run and crawl.
  • Reach in all directions.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to read and follow a variety of instructions.
  • Demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

Responsibilities

  • Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of the assigned teacher to assist in improving students’ academic success.
  • Assist in classroom management.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including during lunch, on the bus, and on the playground.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the teacher with administrative records and the preparation of required reports.
  • Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
