About The Position

The Sheridan School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant to provide direct instruction and support to students under the supervision of a teacher. This role involves implementing instructional programs, assisting with classroom management, supervising students, preparing materials, and maintaining a positive learning environment. The Instructional Assistant will also assist with administrative tasks and serve as a role model for students.

Requirements

  • Earn at least an Associate's Degree; or 60 college hours of credit; or pass the Para-Professional Praxis Exam.
  • Must pass an Arkansas State Police background check, an FBI background check, and a Department of Human Services background check.
  • Must have the ability to work well with students of all ages and grade ranges.
  • Must have the ability to use a desk top computer.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
  • See for the purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter and observing students.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
  • Bend and twist, kneel and stoop, run and crawl.
  • Reach in all directions.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to read and follow a variety of instructions.
  • May be required to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction of students under the direct supervision of a teacher.
  • Conduct instructional activities assigned by the teacher; work with individuals, students, or small groups for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade-level standards.
  • Implement, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Assist in classroom management.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist teacher with administrative records and preparation of required reports.
  • Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics and student confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
