About The Position

St. Thomas More School, part of the Diocese of Allentown, is seeking an Instructional Assistant (Student Services) to assist classroom teachers in instructing and supervising students. This role contributes to the development of students into mature, able, and responsible individuals. The position is part-time and non-exempt.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • A minimum of 2 years of college or related coursework in child development.
  • Effective oral and written expression.
  • Ability to communicate and work with students and staff.
  • Ability to work independently with students and supervise students in the absence of the teacher.
  • Familiarity with academic subjects and ability to utilize classroom materials and technology.
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check (no less than 1 year old).
  • Attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with instructional activities by working with students individually and in small groups on various subjects and skills.
  • Monitoring students and continuing classroom activities when the teacher is occupied.
  • Supervising students outside the classroom as assigned.
  • Preparing bulletin boards and other classroom instructional materials.
  • Reviewing daily schedules with teachers.
  • Keeping daily attendance records and performing clerical tasks related to classroom programs.
  • Collecting and correcting student work.
  • Preparing, distributing, and collecting notes to parents.
  • Assisting students and teachers with copying, technology, and instructional materials.
  • Escorting students within the building and attending specials with students if required.
  • Eating lunch with students or supervising lunch periods.
  • Assisting in making contacts for field trips.
  • Assisting with special projects and evening programs (e.g., back to school bash, meet the teacher night, P/T conferences).
  • Monitoring playground activities and assisting with student arrival and dismissal.
  • Preparing, adapting, and modifying educational materials to enhance student understanding.
  • Attending and successfully completing all required staff development training and meetings.
  • Practicing appropriate hygienic precautions.
  • Performing other duties as requested by teachers, the Director of Student Services, or the building principal.
