About The Position

This is a part-time (29 hours per week) position at Holmes Elementary School. The Instructional Assistant will provide instructional activities to support the classroom teacher and/or interventionist working with students who are academically disadvantaged in Reading, Writing, and Math. The role involves working closely with students, assisting them individually or in groups, reinforcing skills, and overseeing learning activities. The assistant will also help with classroom computer instruction, translation when necessary, and participate in professional development and school improvement initiatives. Regular and on-time attendance is required, along with performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
• Ability to work well with students and staff
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to operate general office machines
• Ability to organize and to prioritize

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be preferred at some sites

Responsibilities

• Work in close proximity with assigned teacher and specific students
• Assist students, individually or in groups, to reinforce skills and/or oversee learning activities
• Follow specific functions as outlined in a written plan to supplement classroom instruction
• Assist with classroom computer instruction
• Assist with translation when necessary
• Participate in professional development (site/district) to enhance ability to support student achievement
• Participate as a stakeholder in school improvement initiatives
• Complete training to assist in the administration and scoring of assessments
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• Perform other related, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
