About The Position

The River Delta Unified School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant II - TK Aide for one open position at Isleton Elementary. This role involves providing instructional support to students in the classroom under the guidance of a certified teacher. The assistant will help maintain a safe classroom and playground environment and perform other related duties as required. Requirements

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Possession of an associate degree with an Educational, medical, or social services field focus, OR passing score on district proficiency exam for employment.
  • Some experience in dealing with school-age children in a formal or informal environment.
  • Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of basic First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of concepts of child growth, development, and behavior; characteristics of school age children.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations as related to the position.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise, monitor and assist students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in the classroom by working with students individually or in small groups to help them achieve standards of conduct and responsibility.
  • Greet students and help with their transition from home to the school setting.
  • Implement and modify transitional kindergarten curriculum materials and activities as directed by the teacher.
  • Evaluate and identify each student’s readiness skills based on age, ability, and interest.
  • Work with students on various subject matters, tutor them in study skills, and motivate them.
  • Perform classroom record-keeping, including taking attendance, recording absences, and accepting notes from parents.
  • Collect anecdotal notes, student behavior observations, and assessment results for teacher or district personnel.
  • Collect student homework and test papers, record grades, and collaborate on progress reports.
  • Provide supportive assistance to teachers with tasks such as copying, typing, filing, and compiling lesson plan materials.
  • Assist in preparing a welcoming, stimulating, and safe classroom environment, including during lunch and on the playground.
  • Supervise or assist in supervising student eating areas and enforce school procedures.
  • Supervise playground activities, prevent dangerous play, and ensure students stay in designated areas.
  • Use positive reinforcement and other techniques to assist students in developing appropriate behavior and appreciating human diversity.
  • Implement teacher-set standards for appropriate student behavior to ensure effective participation and a safe learning environment.
  • Assist in emergencies, administer minor first aid, and report accidents.
  • Report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as copying, laminating, binding, and preparing materials for distribution.
  • Supervise students in the classroom or during activities.
  • Assist students with personal care needs such as toileting, dressing, grooming, and eating.
  • Maintain consistent and regular attendance.
  • Escort students who need to leave the classroom.
  • Accompany students and teachers on field trips or outings.
  • Ensure a safe and clean learning environment.
  • Prepare displays.
  • Assist in set-up and serving during morning nutrition.
  • Attend trainings and meetings for information gathering and to receive updated best practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical functions as needed.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for emails, training, and student assistance.
  • Interpret/translate communications to parents/students if necessary.
