The College of the Arts and Sciences Center for Life Sciences Education is seeking an Instructional Aids Assistant. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in any life science or related area.
  • Experience in teaching with critical inquiry pedagogical techniques is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Orders, collects, cultivates, and maintains teaching laboratory and instructional materials, including related media, for introductory biology courses, presentations, and demonstrations.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise a team of student lab preps and student lab instructional support staff.
  • Maintains equipment for use in and related to introductory biology teaching labs.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Aid Senior Specialist, Assistant Directors, instructors, and course coordinators to create and improve teaching lab activities and develop laboratory procedures.
  • Applies scientific knowledge and skills to solve equipment, personnel, protocol, and safety problems.
  • Manages long-term teaching lab projects, seeing such projects through to completion.
  • Assists course coordinators in training teaching assistants in lab procedures and safety protocols.
  • Assists instructors (Teaching Faculty, Lecturers, etc.) in the design, development, and training of lab exercises for Curriculum-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) for the Introductory Biology program.
  • Serves as backup department lab space and lab equipment coordinator; troubleshoots computing and projection systems used in biology teaching labs.
  • Assists the CLSE and Instructional Aid Senior Specialist with safety planning for Jennings, including assisting other life sciences units within the building; coordinates EHS removal of hazardous materials.
  • Assists in supporting community outreach projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The pay range for this job profile is $16.65 - $21.77. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
