About The Position

ACCEL Schools is seeking an Instructional Aide at Akron Preparatory School in Akron, Ohio. The school is a public charter school serving K–8 students with a well-rounded, college-preparatory education and is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving students throughout the United States.

The Instructional Aide assists the Teacher with classroom activities and promotes positive student behavior in academic and extracurricular settings. The role provides oversight to help ensure student safety and a positive school climate, and supports the School Leader and Teachers by carrying out assigned duties in accordance with ACCEL Schools’ and the school’s policies and philosophy, the governing board, the State Board of Education, and applicable laws.

Requirements

• Associate degree, two years of college coursework, or passage of the Paraprofessional’s Exam.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Successful completion of a BCI/FBI check.
• Ability to meet applicable educational standards.
• Ability to work well under pressure and effectively prioritize and execute tasks to consistently meet deadlines.
• Understanding of and ability to manage confidential information.
• High-quality written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical ability to lift 25–40 lbs.

• Experience in a school or social services setting.

Responsibilities

• Support teacher-led lessons for individual students or groups and follow instructional plans assigned by the Teacher or School Leader.
• Help plan classroom activities as directed by the Teacher and support the Teacher in student and parent relations.
• Assist with school activities, including parent-faculty nights, faculty meetings, assemblies, commencement exercises, fundraisers, chaperoning student activities, guiding students, and participating on faculty committees.
• Perform clerical duties, including grading papers and making copies.
• Assist the Teacher in using classroom technology.
• Help maintain cleanliness in the classroom, lunchroom, and other school areas.
• Understand, accept, abide by, and implement the school’s philosophy and mission in all school activities.
• Perform other assigned duties, including field trips, morning duty, dismissal duty, and lunch duty.
• Work cooperatively with the Teacher and others.
• Act in accordance with directives from the Administrator or designee and the Teacher.
• Contribute to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting high professional standards.
