About The Position

Instruct and supervise a diverse group of students by establishing a positive, respectful environment, providing ample and varied learning opportunities and promoting high standards of performance for all students during car line, lunch, recess and while in the classroom. The Instructional Aide will be responsible for supervising students, encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts, assisting with classroom tasks, and supporting school administration in implementing policies. This role requires effective communication, professionalism, and the ability to adapt to diverse student needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.

  • Ability to direct the work of other staff members.
  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.

  • Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule.

  • Carry out work responsibilities with strong organizational skills, effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising students while maintaining harmonious atmosphere during lunchtime and/or playtime.
  • Circulating the lunchroom to encourage peaceful resolution of conflicts, clean spills, and provide additional assistance as needed.
  • Responsible for lunchroom set-up, clean-up, organizing group games and activities.
  • Performing playground assessment for security and conditions of equipment and reporting concerns to the principal.
  • Reporting disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Providing assistance for students requiring additional educational guidance.
  • Modeling and teaching respect with an awareness of diversity.
  • Effectively working with and responding to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Creating a flexible environment favorable to learning and professional growth.
  • Motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.
  • Assuming responsibility for adapting and modifying instruction for students identified as needing specialized instruction.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
  • Working collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of students.
  • Assisting teachers maintain order in the classroom by keeping students on task, performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks.
  • Assisting school administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, reinforcing individual schools’ plans for positive behavior support, and utilizing effective proactive behavior management skills in all school settings.
  • Effectively mastering the use of office equipment to assist teachers and office with photocopying, scanning, filing, etc. as required.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law and district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Assuming responsibility for assigned duties, e.g., car line, playground, lunchroom duty.
  • Utilizing technology as related to job responsibilities.
  • Reflecting upon own performance and accepting and utilizing supervisory suggestions and feedback.
  • Taking primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings and district in-service meetings.
  • Participating in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
