About The Position

Assist teacher with the delivery of instructional and special education services to special needs students and provide additional student support as needed.

Requirements

Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Minimum of forty eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university; High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) and passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test; and be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.
Ability to work well with Special Needs children
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to act as Liaison between Work Base Location Managers/Supervisors, and South San Transition Education Program.
One year experience working with Special Needs children

Nice To Haves

Ability to operate, and maintain Special Education SSTEP bus requirements
May required toileting, feeding, and lifting Special Needs students.
May required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraints of students in danger or causing harm to themselves or others.

Responsibilities

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in faculty meeting and faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
Refuel, Document Mileage Use, Clean Inside /Out.
Transport students to their assigned Work / Community Base Location/s.
