About The Position

To assist in the implementation of services defined in the Individual Education Program (IEP) and in providing a learning environment where students can benefit from specially designed instruction, modification, and accommodation, as evidenced by progress in the general curriculum. This role involves supporting students with diverse needs, including those with mobility challenges and behavioral issues, and requires adherence to professional ethics and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passing score on the paraeducator exam; or Associate Degree
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • State and national criminal history background check
  • Child Abuse/Neglect (CAN) check

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of services defined in the Individual Education Program (IEP).
  • Provide a learning environment where students benefit from specially designed instruction, modification, and accommodation.
  • Perform clerical duties as directed by the teacher.
  • Prepare for classroom activities and assist in the delivery of specially designed instruction.
  • Assist in the implementation of adaptations/modifications to the general curriculum to meet individual student needs per the IEP.
  • Gather and record student progress data.
  • Administer medication and perform other health services as instructed by a health professional.
  • Assist students with self-care, including diapering, toileting, bathing, and dressing.
  • Assist students across various settings, including the resource room, regular classroom, the building, and the community.
  • Maintain a patient attitude when assisting students in stressful situations.
  • Assist students with mobility challenges, including lifting, positioning, and moving them for equipment use, wheelchair transfers, changing tables, beds, and buses.
  • Assist therapists in following up with therapy as instructed and under the direction of the supervising teacher per the IEP.
  • Provide consistency in services and instruction.
  • Implement students’ IEP behavior-related goals, including behavior support and management plans.
  • Manage students’ behavior when they exhibit inappropriate and/or physically forceful behaviors, potentially including Safe Crisis Management.
  • Adhere to professional ethics and standards, maintaining strict confidentiality concerning students.
  • Refer all parent requests for information regarding their child to the teacher.
  • Function as a cooperative team member and foster good working relationships.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervising teacher or Principal.
