About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking an Instructional Aide - Elementary Basic Skills for Cleveland Elementary School for the 26-27 school year. This role supports students by implementing the core curriculum for the basic skill areas of math, reading, science, social studies, and writing for kindergarten through elementary grades. SFUSD is committed to providing quality instruction and equitable support to over 50,000 students across 130 schools, aiming to help each student discover their spark and graduate ready for college and career.

Requirements

Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the Distinguishing Characteristics of the class listed above, examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations.
Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks: working with children, acting quickly ad effectively in emergencies, working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of SFUSD, and developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff and public.
Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists

An Associates Degree or higher OR 48 college units and a High School Diploma
Passing of CBEST and a high school diploma OR passing of the Instructional Aide Exam and a High School Diploma
Cantonese fluency (reading, writing, verbal translation) is required.

Responsibilities

Assists in planning lessons and preparing instructional materials.
Supervises and/or tutors individuals or small groups of pupils in specific skill and/or content areas.
Conducts planned lessons with assigned groups in the classroom or other assigned educational location.
Assists in explaining subject matter to pupils.
Administer tests and examinations, and reviews, corrects and re-reviews assignments.
Maintains individual pupil profiles and/or portfolios.
Prepares, operates, and maintains instructional equipment and supplies such as audiovisual equipment, computers, laboratory equipment, and other teaching machines.
May also procure and store such equipment.
Issues various supplies and equipment to pupils.
Maintains necessary records pertaining to instructional equipment and supplies.
Assists in maintaining classroom discipline in order to provide a positive learning environment.
Enforces classroom and school rules.
Assists in behavior management and discipline among pupils on field trips and at school site activities.
May assist other designated school staff in monitoring halls, locker areas, cafeteria, yard, auditorium, gymnasium, lavatories, and other areas of the site in accordance with program regulations.
Renders first aid in compliance with modern precautionary methods.
Reports disciplinary problems and injury incidents to the proper supervisor.
May assist the professional staff in publicizing educational development programs by issuing information, objectives, and functions of the program.
Performs related duties as required.
