About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking an Instructional Aide: Attendance Liaison to act as a bridge between parents, community groups, teachers, and other district employees. This role is crucial for improving pupil attendance by organizing, implementing, and coordinating community relations programs. The employee will work with a designated portion of the pupil population under the supervision of an attendance/assignment administrator, assisting in programs designed to effectively serve these students. This position requires familiarity with district organization, rules, regulations, policies, and programs related to parents in various communities. The employee must demonstrate competency in working with pupils and adults, acting quickly in emergencies, relating to diverse individuals, and maintaining effective communication.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of college-level coursework. (30 semester units or 45 quarter units equal one year)
  • Two (2) years of verifiable experience (one year = 285 hours) of paid or volunteer work in the community with culturally, ethnically and socio-economically diverse population of parents of public-school students.
  • Such experience should include programing or activities planning and coordination and parent education.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)

Responsibilities

  • Works with Instructional Aides in the recruitment of parents for Advisory Groups for schools within an assigned area.
  • Organizes, implements, and coordinates informational workshops and multicultural events and projects for parents, school staff, pupils, and members of the community, attends meetings and reports on the progress of the program as needed.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation and distribution of brochures, newsletters, media presentations and other educational materials to inform parents and the community of school policies and other issues related to the welfare of school age pupils.
  • As assigned, may train, direct, organize and oversee Instructional Aides in tutorial program objectives, primary intervention program objectives and parent liaison contacts.
  • May assist in administering the budget allocated to the school community relations program in the assigned area; keep inventories of supplies.
  • As assigned, performs a variety of services through the Student Attendance Office; aids in referring pupils to special programs; supervises and participates in the maintenance of special program assignment records.
  • Communicate with students and their families as needed to support student attendance, including conducting home visits, which is essential in improving school and home relationships and improving students’ academics.
  • Act as a resource to support site administrators in determining appropriate actions in increasing student attendance for groups of students and/or individual students.
  • Analyze school attendance data to assess truancy issues by monitoring the SIS Truancy Module and other attendance reports on a regular basis.
  • Case-manage, including case documentation of students who have been identified for attendance issues.
  • Participate in site-based SART/SST meetings when appropriate and sit in at SARB Hearings when asked by school administration.
  • Attend Truancy Meetings when called at Student Support Services/Pupil Services at 555 Portola.
  • Work with Area Team leadership and/or school administration to arrange for District Attorney Mediation Assemblies and attend those gatherings.
  • Performs related duties as required.
