About The Position

The Institutional Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols and compliance within the Greensville Correctional Center. This role involves managing staff, training inmates on work assignments and safety procedures, documenting maintenance activities, ensuring tool and key control, and performing preventative maintenance. The position requires a strong understanding of safety regulations and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of current fire prevention, state and federal safety regulations, OSHA regulations and requirements, and risk management concepts and principles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective programs for the protection of employees and inmates.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to identify problems and identify alternate solutions, conclusions or approaches to resolve issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC), Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety (MESH).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications
  • OSHA Authorized Outreach Instructor in General Industry and/or Construction
  • Significant experience in multi-site operations
  • Significant experience in conducting facility safety and environmental assessments
  • Significant experience in evaluating and conducting Permit-Required Confined Space Entry
  • Previous Supervisory Experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and hands-on experience in safety and/or facilities related discipline may substitute for professional safety certifications.

  • Supervises and trains inmates to perform daily work assignments.
  • Provides guidance and direct work in the area of safety.
  • Assigns specific repair tasks to inmate personnel.
  • Effectively supervises inmates.
  • Ensures quality of work in accordance with established standards and with minimal complaints regarding work after its’ completion.
  • Prepares and maintains proper documentation (i.e. time cards).
  • Assists in completion of work assignments as needed.
  • Trains assigned inmates to work effectively on the job.
  • Trains assigned inmates and others in the proper use of equipment, cleaning and chemicals to ensure that they are used in accordance with guidelines outlined on material safety data sheets with no injury occurring due to failure to follow safety precautions.
  • Provides feedback to get the job done correctly.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy environment by following safety and security regulations.
  • Reports and/or corrects maintenance needs to reduce hazards in the workplace.
  • Documents job assignments and inventory in TMS.
  • Documents in TMS all work orders and job hours utilized.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory on site (spare parts).
  • Maintains inventory on TMS (parts used).
  • Ensures proper tagging of defective components.
  • Plans and anticipates materials needed for projects.
  • Provides information on supplies to B&G Support Staff to purchase orders and receiving reports for timely completion of project.
  • Remains vigilant and ensures compliance with tool and key control procedures.
  • Ensures tool control is maintained at all times consistent with established policy.
  • Observes, reports, and enforces tool/equipment control and custody in order to maintain security of said tools and equipment.
  • Ensures key control is maintained at all times consistent with established policy.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Plans, directs and performs the required work in a preventive maintenance program.
  • Completes preventive maintenance tasks as required, maintaining appropriate records to remain within established guidelines and schedules.
  • Updates records and maintains the TMS system on preventive maintenance.
