About The Position

The Institutional Communications Manager oversees communication directed toward LSU's internal audiences, primarily faculty/staff/students. Works with other campus units as well as other institutions across the LSU system to coordinate and assist with communications efforts. Takes a 360-degree view of LSU to creatively find ways to keep internal audiences updated and promote positive content about LSU. Communicates to campus about LSU initiatives, priorities and accolades. Works on university-wide projects as needed. Essential personnel who serves as a PIO in the EOC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of experience

  • This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

  • Experience with a content management system, online calendar tools, social media, and writing for news media.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and curate content for multiple social media platforms including LSU’s main accounts as well as the Office of the President and Office of the Chancellor. Provide expert advice on use and effectiveness of different platforms; and guide campus communicators in effectively using their accounts. Recommend strategies/budget for boosting posts when appropriate
  • Creatively plan, solicit content and edit all regular communications to internal audiences including broadcast emails. Maintain broadcast email software and address by unit.
  • Monitor and report analytics for social media and website content to guide overall communications efforts and increase performance.
  • Monitor social media platforms across the system to ensure consistency in messaging, graphics and overall standards.
  • Serve in the LSU Emergency Operations Center, which requires 24-hour on-call status and immediate response to crisis ranging from athletic events (home football games), hurricane preparedness and aftermath to crimes, student illness, and a variety of situations that arise without warning.
