About The Position

Tidewater Community College (TCC) is seeking an Installation & Repair Technician to perform on-site and in-shop inspection, installation, testing, and repair of Audio Visual and microcomputer devices and peripheral equipment. This role supports a multi-vendor, multi-protocol, voice, video, and data network. The technician will provide professional, courteous, and timely end-user support to the college's staff, faculty, and students. Responsibilities include maintaining the security and confidentiality of sensitive information, assisting in desktop standardization and performance, and utilizing diagnostic software to install, set up, and configure common application software packages and operating systems. The position also involves assisting with network interface systems, testing wiring, IP telephone equipment, and peripherals, as well as installing and testing Audio Visual Equipment. Duties include interpreting written requests, coordinating work, performing installations/repairs, documentation, and communicating with various specialists. This is an essential position, requiring the employee to report to work during college closures due to weather or other emergent conditions.

Requirements

  • Reports directly to the Campus Supervisor.
  • Experience with installation, testing, and repair of Audio Visual and microcomputer devices and peripheral equipment.
  • Experience supporting a multi-vendor, multi-protocol, voice, video, and data network.
  • Ability to provide professional, courteous, and timely end-user support.
  • Understanding of security and confidentiality protocols for sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in utilizing diagnostic and data recovery software.
  • Experience installing, setting up, and configuring common application software packages and operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows 10, Macintosh).
  • Experience with setup and maintenance of network interface systems (e.g., Ethernet, Fast Ethernet).
  • Experience testing wiring, IP telephone equipment, and peripherals.
  • Experience installing and testing Audio Visual Equipment (Control Systems, Amps, TVs, cameras, Microphones).
  • Ability to interpret written requests and coordinate work with customers.
  • Ability to document work and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with Telecom, Network, and Support Specialists.
  • Ability to provide first level customer support.
  • Must be able to report to work or fulfill responsibilities during college/campus closures due to weather or other emergent conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Installs or repairs requested services.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Provides first level customer support.
  • Communicates with Telecom, Network, and Support Specialists regarding services.
