About The Position

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a CEI Mid- Level to Senior Level Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Columbia, SC to support various transportation projects with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). The inspector will monitor the work of contractors to ensure compliance with contract requirements, specifications, and quality standards for transportation projects of moderate to considerable complexity. In addition to inspection responsibilities, the inspector may be required to also provide inspection/project management, under the direction of a Project Manager. This Inspector will provide direction to junior inspectors on the project as needed. This position qualifies for a $3000 sign-on bonus.

Requirements

  • Above average math and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
  • Must have a current driver’s license with a safe driving record; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
  • HS diploma required or equivalent required.
  • Roadway and bridge inspection experience is required
  • SCDOT ART, Earthwork and Base, Concrete Level 1 & 2, CEPSCI and ACI Field Concrete Technician certifications are required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and familiar with AASHTOWare Project (AWP).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or BS in Civil Engineering is a plus.
  • 5+ years of CEI experience on SCDOT projects desired.
  • SCDOT experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms.
  • Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance.
  • Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
  • Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
  • Verifies lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
  • Perform accurate calculations and computations.
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
  • Review contractor submittmits for conformance to project documents and specifications.
  • Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor.
  • Recording Daily Work Reports to include quantities in Site Manager and for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASTHO) projects.
